| 92nd Annual ASALH Convention Charlotte, North Carolina October 4 ~ 6, 2007 “From Slavery to Freedom: Africans in the Americas” The Association for the Study of African American Life and History is hosting its 92nd Annual Conference in Charlotte, North Carolina from October 3rd through the 7th. Winners of the ASALH essay contest and a number of scholarly panels will present papers to conference attendees between Thursday, October 4 and Saturday, October 6. The 2007 Black History Theme focuses broadly on the experiences of Africans in the Americas “from slavery to freedom,” and presentations will cover topics from the Atlantic slave trade, slavery, resistance, abolition movements, emancipation, and the development of “New World” communities in all parts of the African Diaspora with special regard to comparative perspectives on slavery and race. There will also be varied discussions on the meaning of freedom and citizenship for Africans throughout the Americas. Presentations will be made between Thursday, October 4 and Saturday, October 6, 2007. Chair: David C.
